Halloween treats: The horror, the horror!

Not that any of us will likely do anything about it, but just for giggles, the News-Review Health Staff, expecting to hit the mother lode of candy this year with her nearly 3-year-old twins, decided to look into the calorie and fat content of some favored Halloween treats.

Give us something good to eat:

Snickers snack size: 72 calories, 4 grams of fat per (yeah, try eating just one). It’s the second-best selling Halloween candy next to candy corn. The tiny fun-size bars weigh in at just 15 grams and are about 2 inches long.
Twizzlers: 133 calories and 1 gram of fat for four tiny pieces. That’s a lot of sugar for a minuscule serving, and more than one ghoul-girl has  been known to polish off a dozen of these little gems. Ahem. Anyway, these are not for low-carb dieters or anyone watching their sugar intake.
Butterfinger snack size: 100 calories and 4 grams of fat may not seem like much, but this one will stick to your teeth and keep the buzz alive. Crunchy sugar, a peanut butter center and rich chocolate, some kind of crispiness that’s other-worldly = yum.
Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup: 80 calories and 4.5 grams of fat. For one. If you freeze it, it lasts longer, but it doesn’t make any fat or calories drop off.
Milky Way snack size: This one’s far out, with 77 calories and 3 grams of fat. It is a little lower in calories than other peanut-butter based chocolate bars, so eat as many as you want. Just kidding. Sort of.
