Health Department and Charlevoix Area Hospital co-sponsoring H1N1 vaccination clinic

Charlevoix Area Hospital and the Health Department of Northwest Michigan are co-sponsoring an H1N1 vaccination clinic at the hospital from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26.

“So far, we’ve given over 17,000 doses of H1N1 vaccine but there are still a lot of people who have not received their vaccination yet,” said Pat Fralick, director of Family and Community Health for the Health Department of Northwest Michigan. “We want people to know it is not too late to get their shot. There is plenty of vaccine now and the vaccination is open to all age groups.”
H1N1 vaccinations from the health department are free.

“We’ve received grant funding from the Michigan Department of Community Health to improve the H1N1 vaccination rate in our four-county health district,” Fralick said. “We’ve planned more than 50 clinics in Antrim, Charlevoix, Emmet and Otsego counties for February and March.”

Public health nurses are bringing H1N1 vaccine to hard-to-reach populations such as people who live in group homes, assisted care facilities and long-term care facilities, as well as workplaces with at least 50 employees.
